Feb. 28th, 2008 11:55 amYou know what I really hate? Writers who write books with protagonists who are fairly cheerful or at least not terminally depressed alcoholics and then as they get the reader used to those books, start writing books in the which the regular character's spouses and kids die, or they become addicted to something, etc. I hate that. The first time I got side swiped like that with with Elizabeth in Sharyn McCrumb's novels. They were light hearted and happy and fluffy and then got more and more depressing, until her darling husband was lost and sea!!! Lost at sea! And then things went downhill and never recovered. I'm sick of that. There should be warning labels! Don't even get me started on Elizabeth George's nonwarning labeled _With No One as Witness_ which so blindsided readers she had to post an explanatory message on her website. I read through her reasoning but don't care. So there.
