What I did over the holidays
Jan. 16th, 2007 10:11 amThis'll take a couple of posts but in summation...
After my final exams, we took a couple of days to get ready, packed the car and drove to NYC to spend Xmas with
porcinea and the family. I hadn't seen them or the city in far too long. After a week and a half we repacked the car with all the booty (and a few things that didn't belong to us, neccesitating a quick fedex run on arrival) and drove back to Georgia.
The next day we drove to Atl and boarded a plane for Las Vegas where A's mom lives. That makes it sound so easy, doesn't it.
However, when we got in the car to run errands before leaving for the aiport, the brakes were making a horrible sound. Too horrible to trust them on the 1.5 hr drive to the airport. So it's 1pm and we had to leave for the airport by 330 for a 7pm flight but we have no car. No one could drive us, we couldn't change the flight for less then $800 and no brake place couldget us in for another two hours. I called about renting a car to discover that since we don't have a credit card, the person with the GA license needs to show his paystub to rent the car. Um, he doesn't work. Luckily, the woman in their office was extemely nice and offered to accept a combination of other papers with his name on them, including our cable bill. We arranged to have to the car pick us up at home a little before 330. At 315 the car place called to say that the car was actually in Calhoun (a couple of towns over), so they're sending a car to take us to it. A little after 330 the car pulled up, we loaded our stuff into it and drove off. While making conversation with the driver, who was on his bluetooth the whole time, it came up that while the office told us Calhoun, they told him Cartersville. He made a call, the baby started crying, I assumed he's called to check the pickup location. Of course not. The Cartersville office wasn't sure they had a car or that we'd make our flight. Just in time, they loaded us into a compact and wound the rubber band in the engine.
The rest of the day went very smoothly--from dropping off the car to getting on the plan--even the security check was easy; they waved us through the line because we had a stroller.
We spent a week and a half with A's mom, which included a weekend on the Strip and a couple of days in San Diego to see my other sister and her family. Man, do I have some things to say after that.
We flew back last Sat so I could start school on Mon--I was glad we had a long weekend this past weekend so I could get settled a bit more.
I'm going to post some stories and pics from the trip soon, but I just wanted to let you guys know where I was and say that I had a blast.:)
