Meal Log

I want to keep a meal log so I can see how what I eat is or isn't affecting how I feel. It didn't occur to me that I could keep a record in my journal until today.

Let's see...I know I ate a lot of fruit salads last week--chopped fruit, plain yogurt, honey, and kashi ginger fruit cereal. Also we had tofu marinated in a ginger teriyaki sauce, stir fried with veggies and served over brown rice. Oh, and bean chili with tvp crumbles, cheese and yogurt. We had veggie pizza and hummus at Mellow Mushroom in Chattanooga and I've had quite a bit of fruit and peanut butter (mostly rice cakes topped w/pb and raisins. Several veggies salads too, with and without shrimp--and I made myself eat the carrots.

Since I actually have a "disease" I want to eat better so we're buying organic, taking supplements and sprinkling flax seed on everything. :) I'm going for an 80/20 ratio of healthy to less so.

I'm torn about where to place coffee/sodas--I don't have that much but I've discovered that my meds make me so sleepy that my commute is a little hazardous without caffeine, but I'm not supposed to have caffeine bc of the beta blocker. I'm on the side of not crashing and dying, but it is the first time I've ever justified my Starbucks. :)

Don't take the sleepy business for granted. One of the things that hyperthyroidism can do is to make getting to sleep difficult, so your body may still be adjusting now that you're on meds and will even out or the level may be too high. I had to go through a long period before the endocrinologist got the dosage right, so talk to the doctor.

I will, thank you! I get retested in a few weeks and will also get referred to the endocrinologist so hopefully I can get some more info.

Yerba Mate

Try some Yerba Mate- it has some caffeine but not as much and it has some other natural "mental stimulant" and it is pretty damned good with honey and soymilk- or cowmilk- or ricemilk. Also you can get flavored- like chai flavored or mocha. I rather like it. It is like hot tea but more bitter like coffee- almost like african red tea. It is an option. You might also just try decaf- it might not be the caffeine that wakes you up. I find that decaf works fine for me- it is more the tasty smelly experience for me. It may be for you too--- Method Dosing??
