3. Bailed on work this am bc of cold.
4. No playing with pfunque tomorrow--she has to work.
5. What will I do tomorrow?
6. Oh, right. Go to the utility companies to beg for extension. Bleah.
7. Must mail car ins check.
8. Must get A measured for tux.
9. Must find ball gown by Feb 9th. Start looking now.
10. Oh, good. Time for last class. Any bets on whether they've read? Didn't think so.

You can slap me the next time you see me if you want, but research shows that if you lecture to students when they're unprepared, they tend to continue to be unprepared. Start giving them quizzes, or put them in groups and make them do the reading and a group assignment on the spot. If you lecture when they haven't read, then they are training you r/n vice versa. No slapping! Want and need help from experienced teachers! I will check out those books in preparation for next semester.

I just don't have experience in this kind of educational setting--and I've been teaching the way I was taught, but that's got to change. These classes are more like a high school/college cross, I think. Very few people do the daily work and about 50-75% of the students stop coming after the midterm across the entire campus. It's frustrating.

The new Division Head talked about starting a mentor program for the newbies, but nothing's happened yet. It would be really helpful though.
