Yesterday was ok. I was really tired but class, the commute and work went went pretty well. I'm enjoying the Elizabeth Peters audiobooks series--this is the second one I've listened to.

A couple of weeks ago I had to throw two students out of class for yelling at each other repeatedly--one of the students apologized after class, but the other I'm still having problems with. She sits in class without her book and stares off in the distance--I gave a quiz yesterday and she had the temerity to argue with me that I couldn't quiz them on something I hadn't told them to read--nevermind the fact that I did tell them, it was on the syllabus. Her attitude was that assignments on the syllabus aren't due until I tell them.

I'm getting ready to talk to someone about her since I'm sure her evaluation is going to be wretched. I think it all started because I don't live up to her expectations for a literature teacher--she wanted to know what authors I like and what I had last read (there's nothing modern enough in our textbook for her) and was appalled that it was a trashy vampire novel.

Oh well, more classes today. :)

So fail her. One bad evaluation isn't the end of the world. I had to trash one of my teachers from Summer semester because he really was pathetic but I'm sure it doesn't make that much difference.

I don't know the student, but based on what you've written I think talking with someone is an excellent idea. IME, students with that sort of behavior often benefit from some sort of intervention, whether from an advisor, a counselor, or the Dean of Students. I would also encourage you to carefully document the behaviors you observe, because that information could be extremely helpful to someone who is trying to intervene or if the behavior escalates and you need to pursue her removal from the class. **hugs!**
