Friday:
Dropped the baby off at daycare. Said, "today we are cleaning!" Went to B&N and spent 3 hours drinking coffee and reading magazines (with no baby pulling on us or crying). Then went over to the Thai restaurant for lunch (mmmmm...).

Picked up the baby, both of us nice and relaxed, and headed over to the park. It was such a nice day that we had to do something outside so we played at the park for a few hours. (The baby is really starting to enjoy swinging.)

After the park, we over to Sam's Club and got a one-day pass to try it out. Bought a bunch of baby snacks for almost nothing. Afterwards, we drove out to Barnsley to drop off a book and then headed home to unload the few groceries. After a short rest, we walked down the road to the Mexican rest. for an early supper.

Saturday:
Drove to Chatanooga in the morning which was only about an hour and change. Found a parking lot (8 bucks, yipes), and headed over to the aquarium, which was lovely and both the husband and the baby had a great time.

Had lunch at Cheeburger, Cheeburger where an old friend of A's used to work. Quite tasty. Left there to walk over the longest pedestrian bridge in the world and then walked all down Frasier, one side to another. Found the flyfishing store and a cool new age bookstore. We had to leave the bookstore after a bit because the baby was crying and fussing, so as we left I informed him fairly loudly that he needed to be quiet because he was disturbing the zen. People were amused by that. :)

Walked back over the bridge while getting burnt and thirsty and tired. Next time, I'll know to bring water and sunblock and a hat. Went over to the Children's Museum--awesome!! One of the best I've been too and not very expensive. I think we're getting a membership. And probably a membership to the aquarium too.

By the end of the kid's museum, the baby was very tired and started fussing as soon as he hit the carseat. The coughing started soon after. We had to stop at one point because he coughed so hard he threw up. :(

After a long night and some intent reading of the Dr Sear's Baby Book, we determined that he has the croup.

Sunday:
Cuddled baby and administered meds every 4 hours. Watched tv and read books--but avoided rough play. Drove over to the library by myself to get new audio book for the commute, but otherwise, stayed in and took care of son.

Note: We've taken him for some period of time to daycare three times and twice he's come down with something nasty--we may be rethinking this.

My nephew used to get that, and he spent lots of time in the bathroom--if anyone was taking a shower, someone would take him into the bathroom and play with him in the steamy space. It seemed to help him. (But talk about bad hair days...)

Yes, in the early days, day care primarily functions as a virus distribution center. We used to joke that we just brought SS by once a week to let the other kids sneeze on him, then we'd take him home and wait for the fever to start.

welllll... virus distribution center/chance to build immunity.

not that i'd be real pleased about my kid catching the croup, but i expect once i have a kid they're going to come home with a fair number of colds/flu. (to pass on to me! oh joy!)

Children's museum membership is an *excellent* idea. Especially if it gets you reciprocal admission to the ACM ( http://www.childrensmuseums.org/ ). Charleston has an excellent kids museum (Ann Darby built it!), and we got in there with our Brooklyn Children's Museum membership. Plus there's two here. And Port Discovery in Baltimore -- fun all over the country!

Just think what a healthy immune system he's developing. Poor dear.
