May. 17th, 2005 12:43 amI was just looking back over the last few entries and realized that I haven't really said much about my life other than about being pregnant, which to be fair, is pretty all-absorbing, but I wanted to write about a few other things while I was up.
For those who don't know, my husband and I moved in with my sis and her family at the end of March, so now we share a loft in Brooklyn. We just finished unpacking this weekend and have plans to paint next weekend. Such a pretty palette too--pale green walls, medium green door, dark green door frame, blue ceiling with purple beams and dark pink accents in the room--it's like a garden. :) The animals are taking the change pretty well--Sam pees on stuff that's not in our space, so he's been confined to our side of the house, but Madeline's been enjoying it and the ferrets are ok, but not getting the attention they're used to--we need to find another place for their cage. The apartment is nice and big but not as soundproof as we'd like--noise travels though the whole building and through our apartment pretty easily, so I think we'll be putting up some more soundproofing tiles eventually. The bathroom is lovely though--needs some cosmetic work, but the shower is huge and has two showerheads and lots of hot water.
The neighborhood is also very nice--a very residential Satmar Jewish area with tons of families with 5 kids or so apiece and a tasty bakery on the corner. There're also some good restaurants within walking distance (once I'm more mobile anyway) and more places to eat and shop a short drive/subway/bus ride away. The bus stops right outside our door and the subway is just two blocks down, so transportation is pretty easy--oh, and there's always parking on our street.
Acey's adjusting ok--he likes the city, but really misses having friends around, as do I. He's been fishing a few times and just ordered waders so he can go more often (different style of fishing up here--need different equipment). His job is going well--the owner like him a lot and pulled him aside the other day to say that he wants him to move up in the company and that they're sending him to get his CDL, which is great because it's excellent money, and is a transferrable skill. He works long hours and is pretty tired when he comes home, but we're both used to that from his tug boat days. I'll be glad when he can get home for a weekend or when he makes some friends here. He seems more excited about the baby every day and spends a lot of time talking to him and feeling/watching him move.
We didn't do much this past weekend--had brunch on Sat at a little Southern place--excellent fried okra, nasty, nasty ssweet tea--and ran some errands, then went home and unpacked boxes and rearranged our room--trying to get everything in place before the child gets here...
