The baby has a strong and easily found heartbeat! 152 beats per minute! After all the excitement last weekend, this was most welcome news. Even the OB was a little surprised at how quickly she found it and how definite it was--so she told us that everything was going really well and not to worry about last weekend. I'm still supposed to take things very easy though and rest as much as possible.

So, with that in mind, does anyone have any recomendations for fun two player games? We played the Buffy game last night, which was fun, but we're going to need a larger selection, especially since something in our entertainment setup (tv/vcr/dvd player) has stopped working and is affecting the rest of the components.

My favorite card game in the whole world is Uno. Yatzee is good. All the Chez Geek games are fun. Anything by Cheapass Games is fun, although not all games work for only 2 players.

Ooo, Santa brought me Uno for Xmas! And I think I might order some of those other games too. Thanks!

Backgammon, Othello, Yahtzee, Mastermind. Perhaps Scrabble or Boggle if you and your opponent has the same wordpower. Tons of different games you can play with a deck of cards. And bonus points if you take the opportuntiy to learn Go. :)

Backgammon's a good idea--I used to love it. And Mastermind I might actually have packed up somewhere. I used to play Go in college and I think A might play--I should pick it up again.

Quiddler (word/card game, sort of like Scrabble except you don't build on each others' words). Can order online from http://www.setgame.com. Nice for two players, kind of slow with more than say 6 players.

Cribbage (card game with board for tracking).

The Awful Green Things from Outer Space (http://www.sjgames.com). You play the crew of a ship or the awful green things.
Knightmare Chess, Tile Chess, Proteus -- chess variants from sj games

My parents play a lot of cards. One they like is called Five Crowns. Game stores should have it.

We also play a dice game called "Farkle" which is good for 2 and more players. (We used to play a card game called "Yahootie" or "What the Hell" at family dinners precisely because it scaled up or down as needed.) If you have six regular (six sided) dice and a cup you might be in business. I will try to get the instructions on my web site sooner rather than later.
