Jul. 7th, 2004 09:10 amAfter being tentatively diagnosed with cancer three weeks ago (not even, 20 days), my cat died last night. Annie was 9 and had been with me since she was about 5 weeks old--she was white with brown ears and tail and five brown spots on her chest. Her favorite foods were tuna and canned asparagus and she slept next to me every night. She was the only cat I've ever known who knew and came to her name. She didn't much like to be petted, but she would sit next to me on the bathroom rug whenever I was sick. In the last three weeks, I had to take her to have fluid drained out of her chest cavity (so she wouldn't suffocate) three times and she lost 1/4 of her body weight. Last night, she had 500ccs taken out of her chest and while we were facing the decision that had to be made, she had a heart attack. It was fast and we were with her at the end, which is a comfort, but the house is so empty without her.
