I had a few moments of complete panic in the last week, but all has been resolved so I'm feeling much more stable. Because of some scheduling problems and because my mom decided that we should have the mocha grande wedding of our dreams (mostly so she could invite everyone she wants but also because she wants me to be happy), I suddenly had no firm date or location of for the whole deal. Much freaking out. And frantic calling. And firm decision making (no, the date of the wedding is staying put, other things will have to change.) At the end of it, I'd booked the most wonderful reception site in the world, which I called out of desperation, not actually believing that they rented the place out.

I also found undergarments for the dress for much less than I was expecting and my mom and I had a funny little conversation in the lingerie store:

Momma: "So, do you have a nightgown yet?"
Me: "No, I don't have any of that stuff."

A few minutes later as I'm browsing through a rack...

Me: "I will need suitable undergarments"
Momma, with a note of panic: "But you'll need to pick those out by yourself!"
Me: "I meant for the dress."
Momma: relieved sigh

And, his mother got us a photographer, a friend of the family who is an actual wedding photographer, who's doing it as a favor/wedding present.

I may have found bridesmaids dresses, but a size check is in progress.

Whew!

For most people, their wedding is the first and possibly only major event they will ever plan; and mostly they do it entirely on their own, or with only volunteer (as opposed to professional) help. It's a huge task, and almost everyone doing it at any point it time is an absolute beginner without a clue.

It sounds like things are going extremely well! A good venue and a photographer and your outfit is coming together; that's a lot. Good for you!

I hadn't really thought about it like that, but it is an big event--the sort of thing that one might hire an event planner to take care of --which I guess explains the rise in popularity of the wedding planner. I can't afford a planner (and I'm a little controlling about some things), but I bought some books and have learned quite a bit so far. Hopefully there will be no harsh lessons in this.

I am happy about the progree so far--once I pick the bridesmaids dresses and find someone to videotape it for us, it'll just be the little things left (I think).
