Feel free to skip any entry entitled "Wedding" since I need a place to both vent about and chronicle the next ten months of madness.

Let's see, A and I became engaged on Xmas Day. The ring was a surprise but the engagement was not. After talking about getting married for a while, we debated eloping to Vegas or geting engaged and the allure of the ring and big dress won out. I picked out a ring and we decided that we would announce an official engagement after he had actually gotten it. I wasn't expecting that to be for a couple more months, but he picked it up before we went to NYC and disguised it as a present. I opened it with Piglet taking pictures, A put it on me and there we were, engaged. There was much parent and friend calling and then some wandering out in the cold to wave my hand around in front of complete strangers.

Since then we've had one impromptu engagement party, several meetings with parents, one bridal show, three dress shopping sessions, one caterer meeting, three decided on and then rejected reception sites, four wedding dates and two guest lists.

As of today, heh, we've picked a date, booked the Unitarian church and reception hall and selected a caterer. Now I just need to pick my dress so I can firm up my attendants' dress options.

Did I mention that I had a dress already and the salon went out of business and can't find it?

Bummer about the dress. Apparently that's more common than is widely known. Have fun looking; I loved trying on wedding dresses the first time I got married!

The terrible irony is that I bought a book titled _Bridal Bargains_ in which they list the most common disasters for each category and the #1 wedding dress disaster is the reputable neighborhood bridal salon disappearing overnight. I wouldn't mind so much if the former owner didn't seem as if she though it were funny. Oh well, you're right, it has been a lot of fun picking out a new dress. :)

Congrats!

Congrats, and I'm sorry about the dress - I seem to recall your telling me this. Good luck shopping for a new one!

But a date, a place, and a caterer already! Very good!!

There are some excellent "sanity preserving" resources on www.goingbridal.com - the cavalcade of bad bridal fashion and the evil wedding planner should make you laugh.

Thank you! I very much enjoyed the evil wedding planner-hopefully my plans won't be too similar. :)

Skip them? Skip them?!? But this way I can get my wedding jones met without having to do the whole find someone to marry thing.

I'm sorry the salon "lost" the dress. Do you suppose that their superior organization had anything to do with them going out of business, hmm? The plus is that they can't do it to you a few weeks before the wedding. Twits!

And the other plus is...MORE SHOPPING!!! So...how was the shopping? .jpgs?

ps Tiaras are way cool...

Well, it wasn't on order. :) I was just trying to be a considerate bride and not assume that everyone wants to hear all about everything--not that I'm obsessed or anything. No, really, I could put down these magazines anytime I wanted.

More shopping has been good--it's one of the few times that I'm not even thinking about what's in my closet already--I may already have white shoes, but I'm getting new ones. :)
