Dec. 10th, 2008 11:53 amAlso, my mother's complete negativity is really freaking annoying sometimes. Everything is always lost or stolen and stories about people are always about who's died. gah!
I was helping her wrap presents last night when I found a gift still in a shipping box--she was trying to explain what was in it so we didn't have to open it (but we had to anyway since it was a huge box for a small gift that's going in another box with the rest of the gifts to another state). She kept saying it was the same thing that Royce has, alphabet letters that roll, but I had no idea what she meant, and then she added that they were Royce's that were all ruined now, of course. Um, what the hell are you talking about? I open the box to find an alphabet train. Very cool! I ask her why she would say that Royce's is ruined and she says that she's only ever seen a couple of the letters so she just assumed they were destroyed or in bad shape or lost now. Um. And you haven't noticed that the letter train he has makes his name? R O Y C E ?? It's just a coincidence that those are the letters we've managed not to destroy?
Argh!!

Oh, yeah, mine too. Sheesh!!
I worry sometimes that I'll turn into -- I'll be the one rambling on and on while my child looks anywhere but at me and grinds his teeth and smiles his fake smile. But then I think -- I am not *that* negative. I might still drive him insane, but it will be my insanity, not our mother's.

Date: 2008-12-10 07:16 pm (UTC)I, alas, HAVE turned into my mother. I inherited the position of Assumption Queen.
I wonder what percentage of daughters all over the world would agree with the statement, "My mother drives me crazy." BTW, I just watched "Postcards from the Edge." Now there's a crazy-making mother...

Date: 2008-12-10 11:15 pm (UTC)I sometimes catch myself being my mother, but I'm usually aware of it soon enough to make fun of myself for it. Since it's usually directed at DWH, that helps defuse the situation.
