A left at 330am Thurs morning to go camping in the Smoky Mountain National Forest which left R and I on our own, and car-less, until Sun evening. Somehow, we managed to get by. Heh.

Thurs night was hard because R was very upset his dad wasn't home but it took me a while to realize what the issue was. Prebed was full of temper tantrums from both of us, but we made up before falling asleep, and agreed that Fri I would work on being more patient and R would work on using his please and thank you words and asking not demanding.

When I picked him up Fri after work, we went to the Friends of the Library booksale, which was ok. A little disappointing--mostly hardback best sellers. I got a couple of parenting books (Playful Parenting, The Complete Breastfeeding Guide and Your Pregnancy Week by Week), a Nora Robert's paperback duo, some knitting patterns and a couple of maps for about $6.50. Took R home to find that my laptop was dead. No light on the power cord, nothing. *sigh* I managed not to panic, and put a movie in the little DVD player for R.

Sat I picked my Mom up at 630am in her car for the Moms to Moms consignment sale. We got there right before the doors opened, walked in, and started grabbing stuff. Next year, I'll know what sections to hit first, as I started on the baby equipment side (swings, etc) which I don;t need, and missed some awesome larger toys on the other side. Still, we ended up with a stroller full of stuff for R and Alistair and I stayed in budget. I was hoping for a crib (to sidecar) but there were none at all.

Came away with: toys for R (remote control car, walking robot (like Max's!), wiggles accordian, little einstein's book, dora memory game, leap frog maracas, winnie the pooh cartridge/book for his leap pad, dora bath mitt, clock game/puzzle, between the lions matching game/puzzle, big metal airplane, gallon zip loc bag of learning games (button matching/stringing game, animal bingo, two animal matching games, 4 preschooler brain quests books, etc), and a learn to swim vest.

For Alistair and me: an xtra car seat base, my breast friend deluxe nursing pillow, 2 medela nursing bras, primo european baby bath, 3 miracle blankets/kiddopotomus swaddle blankets, 16 prs infant socks, 8 pee soaker pads, 3 newborn gowns (my favs!), a home from the hospital outfit w/extras (blue with little boats--one piece romper, hat, bib, onsie, footed pants, blanket), 4 infant footed sleepers, a bundle me, and more that I know I'm forgetting. Oh, like the the green maya wrap w/instructional CD I found for $3!

Oh, and my mom bought a baby gate for her house (for the dogs).

Grand total: $108 (and a bunch of stuff crossed off the registry!)

I didn't have the patience to go through the racks of clothes, but the hung up clothes were a bit overpriced, I thought, so I was glad I found some things I wanted in the bins.

After we finished up at the sale, we grabed a Hardee's biscuit and drove over the bridge for R's 2nd preballet/tap class, where he had an awesome time. And was excited to get another sticker. Although if I have to explain one more time that he is not having trouble paying attention in the ballet part because it's girly but because it's slower and this is his first organized class ever, my head might explode. last week, they apologized because they only had "girly" stickers for him. head-->desk! repeat.

Even though we were pretty tired after all that, momma wanted to go to the big walmart to look for glasses strings so we drove over there (with her protesting the whole time, "it's too far! too out of the way!"). It started out badly with her wandering off twice--the second time for over half an hour, during which time I had her paged twice to no avail. (This place is _huge_.) After I lectured her for a while, we agreed that next time we would have a plan for getting separated. Walmart did have a neat changing table on sale, but I can't find it on the website to check reviews. Going against my principles, I did my grocery shopping there, as a frugal mindset involves sacrifice. Wow. They had the organic and other brands that we buy for cheap--a cart of gorceries for $45. I also got R's Batman costume for Halloween. :) After Walmart, it was time to go home, open up the giant box of PB Capt Crunch (which we haven't been able to afford in months), eat a couple of bowls for supper and go to bed.

Sun, I'd promised momma that I'd come with her to her post church cruise to greece/turkey info meeting, so I checked R into the nursery and girded my loins for the church service. Not one I enjoyed--weird hymns and a sermon on politics. And then afterwards, the nursery had to close early for CPR training so they couldn't watch R during the meeting anyway. We just had to wait for momma for an hour. Nothing like an overactive preschooler,  church clothes and a wet playground. At least momma felt bad enough to take us to lunch at the cafeteria, mmm. Went to the mall afterwards to return a game to target and decided to let  R run off some steam in the mall proper (he'd been cooped up from the daily rain all weekend), so we walked from one end to the other. Momma bought a $6 rain jacket at Sears and I looked at baby stuff there and at Penny's. Eh, at both places. When we got back to our place, it was raining, big surprise, so we sat in the car until it slacked off, and then had a lovely surprise--A drove up! He made it back in record time. :) :) :)

After he showered, we had a family cuddle, watched Peter Pan and then tried to go to bed. Sadly, R suddenly had a cold and was up most fo the night choking and sneezing and crying for momma. Sometimes it seems like he has the worst immune system ever--all it takes is one group activity with other kids and boom! he's got a cold. Hopefully, he'll be a bit better tonight, enough for us all to get some sleep anyway.

So I'm reading along, and I get to the part about the cruise, and I think, "Weird. I know someone else whose mother is going on a church cruise to Greece and Turkey. Oh. Wait. Duh."

Heh.

R's fans will want to see a picture of him as Batman.
