Should I be more upset that Obama's running mate is Biden? Some of the sites I read seem to think so, but I'm having trouble working up any furor. I mean, yeah, he's said some dumbass things and I don't agree with all his policies (mostly, I wish he were a bit more to the left), but I don't think he's awful in either his personal or political life. Would it have been nice if Obama stuck to his leftist leanings, or the leanings I thought he meant when he talked about change? Yeah. Would've it have been if his running mate was a woman? Yeah. Would I rather have him have a chance of getting elected? Well, yeah. I don't feel like the democrats have let me down, maybe cause around here, the dems are only slightly to the left of the massively right wing dominant party here. I actually like Obama and Pelosi's latest abortion comments (the late term issues aside)--yes, they mentioned god, and no, they didn't say flat out say "a woman's right to choose. period. no need for further discussion." but they were pretty darn clear while addressing the kind of concerns that I've heard people talk about myself. I think they're being realistic and since I was worried about Obama being too idealistic, I'm happy for the change.

If anyone has any other info abt Biden that would change my opinion, I'd be glad to hear it, but so far, I'm pleased with his record on most things.

I was upset about Biden as a choice (and I grew up with him as my Senator) until I talked to a former student who is an activist in the party. He pointed out that Obama needs to appeal to the more conservative Democrats who could be swayed by McCain and that this gives him the foreign policy gravitas he was missing. You can read Matt's comments directly on my Facebook Wall.

Anyway, it made more sense to me after reading that.

He's a foreign policy ace, and what I've read about him leads me to think that he makes decisions there that I would support. He voted for the Iraq war, but admitted he was mistaken. The clincher for me - he voted against the most recent FISA bill that Obama voted for, much to my dismay. He's smart and should do well as a campaigner and debater, given that he exercises a bit of control where needed. :-)
