Aug. 4th, 2008 11:03 amSo I've got a dilemma. Not this weekend but the next is orientation for the MLIS program I was accepted into. The program runs Sat am through Mon at 4pm. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to get there using the fewest resources of money, time and vacation days.
My options include:
1. Flying. Uses the least amount of vacation days. Very expensive. I'd have to rent a car to get from Birmingham to Tuscaloosa, and then worry about making it back in time--classes are over at 4pm and the last flight leaves at 6pm.
2. Driving. To do it comfortably, I'd have to take Friday off. It's 8 hrs, not including stops. I could leave Thurs, stay overnight in a hotel and then finish Fri, but that adds the hotel expense. Same situation on Mon, although I can play that by ear. Leave at 4pm, drive however long I can and either make it home or stay over somewhere, get up early and drive home so I can be at work by 8am. Will cost gas and vacation time. Could leave Fri after work--just have to be at the hotel by 8am Sat morning. Bleah.
Now neither option looks that great, but looking at the flying, I think I need to make sure that 6pm is the latest flight at any price because if it is, I don't think that'll work--it's an hour drive from Tuscaloosa and I'd have to either make sure the shuttle was on time or turn in a rental car and then go through security and make my plane. Might be cutting it a bit close.
Driving will suck a lot but might be easier in the long run.
