Jul. 28th, 2008 09:57 amSome of you know what happened to my laptop six months or so ago. I'll just say that mistakes were made and it got wet. And then it stopped booting properly. According to google, the most likely explanation was that I had shorted out my motherboard which is super expensive to replace and that Apple Care probably wouldn't cover the cost as it stemmed from water damage. I've spent six months trying to decide what to do--drive to to Charlotte to the closest Apple Store, mail it in, take it to an authorized apple repair place here, buy a new computer...
The grand opening of the local Apple Store was Sat. I stood in line, got my t-shirt, played with the ipod touch, and talked to a specialist abt my laptop issues. She thought it was the motherboard too. Had I backed everything up? she asked tentatively. Oops.
Sunday, I drop it off--all the appointments are full but they'll look at it and get me an answer in 24 hrs.
A has my cell phone. He calls a few minutes ago. The apple store specialist called to say that my laptop booted when he plugged it in (oh, no, I cringe, thinking they've stopped there, laughing at the girl who can't turn her computer on) but he found a glitch in the reset function (hardware, I think--something shorted) and fixed that, plus the keyboard and track pad seemed off, so since I have apple care, he just went ahead and replaced those too. It'll be ready for pick up this afternoon.
No data loss, no fee, working computer this afternoon. Can I tell you how excited I am, and how glad I am I forked out for the 3 yr apple care protection? Thrilled! Thrilled, I tell you! And I had a big chunk of money from my student loan budgeted for getting it fixed/gettting a new machine, and now, I don't have to! My technologically illiterate mother fell in love with the iphone when she was in the store with me so she thinks I should celebrate by buying one of those. I'm going to celebrate somehow!
