Thank to everyone for all your good thoughts and energy. I am still employed--they just thought it would be a good idea to tell me abt it in the am and then wait until 4pm to actually get it over with. Nice. I didn't even eat yesterday I was so nervous--had two dinners last night. :)

So. Still have a job with a paycheck, etc., which is lovely. Am not thrilled abt some aspects of the evaluation most of which boiled down to: in 6 months, you've done these particular things wrong once and we've been seething over that one error, and for the past 6 months, you've been doing this thing wrong every day and instead of saying anything to you, we've just been getting more and more irritated. Oh, and then there are the ones that I've been doing just as I was told, but they wanted to change the procedure and never told me. head---->desk

Not to say that there weren't a couple of things that I could actually improve on but most of it was stuff that if someone had said something 5 months ago, we wouldn't have to be talking about it now and no one would be irritated enough to think abt firing me.

ETA: Specifically, there were 11 items to work on--7 of them were things that someone just needed to tell me to do differently, 1 I have no idea what they mean (I know I should've asked for clarification), 1 was something that I forgot to do once, which leaves 2 things that are actually areas to improve in the traditional sense.

I know it irritates you but I find this terribly amusing. Engineers are known for their superior communication skills after all. ;)

I knew you could make me laugh about it. :) I suppose it is funny--but man, are they not good at communication.

That, and you have oddly small shoes to fill of course.

If it makes you feel any better, no one told me I was doing my job decently until CHRISTINA called me two months in.

Glad you still have a job, despite the clueless bosses. In my job, I get frustrated when one student says something negative and it ends up in a "global" way on my evaluation. Many, many positives seem outweighed by one negative, which isn't a good process but it does keep the "scores" where they want them. *sigh*
