Cause for celebration!
Jul. 14th, 2008 03:29 pmThe family is home! I picked up R and A from the airport Sat abt 430pm and only cried a little bit. R has grown and was talking like crazy and crying a bit himself. He was so happy to see me---had a look on his face like I was a dream and keeps patting my arm and face to make sure I'm still here. Slept on top of me Sat night. :) We went straight home so the boys could decompress and just stayed there. Ordered pizza for supper and chilled out. They showed me pictures and souvenirs and the stuff from Nana and gave me a pretty silver and turquoise necklace. I'm so happy they're home.
Sun we slept in and then lazed around the house, although we did manage to get a good deal of detritus out to the curb for garbage pick up. We managed to drive out to Mt P to Towne Center for an afternoon of reading and playing at Barnes and Noble complete with coffee and afterwards had tasty, tasty lunch at Mama Fu's (beef curry rolls, salad w/chicken and ginger dressing) during which R ate most of his meal (it's always a tossup, but shrimp do stack the deck). I stopped at Ulta for sunscreen (they were out of what i wanted, and wandered around a bit while R slept in the car. Acey did prep for dinner while I played with R when we got home and then we took a walk around the neighborhood before dinner. Funnily enough, when we let R pick the direction to go at each corner, we ended up at the playground. Oh, and he wanted to take the giant stuffed mickey mouse, so we brought the wagon with us so mickey could have somewhere to sit. (translation--you're not going to want to carry that thing for more than a block, and I'm not carrying it for you. so we strapped it into the other wagon seat.) The playground was fun--R got quite sandy and made another child cry with his overture of friendship (no, seriously, this other kid was really shy and R kept trying to get him to play--we called him off, but it clearly unbalanced the other child. his mom commented on how much they needed to get out more so he'd be exposed to other people). Dinner was garlic basil pasta w/garlic bread and salad of field greens, goat cheese and balsamic vinegar. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........I'd missed food like that. You know, food cooked at home.
Oh, I almost forgot that before I went to get them on Sat, I went to the movies so I could get one last one in before the kid came back. Saw Journey to the Center of the Earth, not in 3D, and it was, well, not terrible. A little disappointing overall. I've seen better adaptations. Weirdly enough, the theater I went to does odd things for the preshow instead of commercials or the movie trivia thing--usually it's youtube videos that the owner's daughter picks out, but this time I walked into the middle of what seemed like a made for tv movie. It was enthralling in the way that really bad sci-fi movies can be on a rainy Sat afternoon, but the actual movie I'd paid for started before the pre-movie ended. Now I'll never know if casper van dien escapes from the time travellers or not. Well, actually, thanks to imdb, I know how it ends and that it was called, "Thrill Seekers." It was awful but more intriguing than the actual movie.
