I had my 2nd appt with my midwife Friday and got the results of my bloodwork, pap smear, and had another u/s. Things did not go very well. Gene was 1/2 late coming into our exam room because she had to pause to write down her huge list of issues we needed to talk about.

1. My pap smear showed abnormal cells on my cervix. Great. I had abnormal cells removed 15 yrs ago and have had no signs of recurrence until now. So she'll check things again after the baby is born. "The least of our worries," she said.

2. She asked if I had fasted before getting blood drawn. I asked if I was supposed to and she said no, but that my sugar level was high so they'll give me the gestational diabetes test early, abt 20 weeks. Awesome.

3. The baby's pulse rate was 171, which is high, and my blood pressure was 140/100. After a rest, it was 146/90. Last month there is was 130/90. I didn't realize there was a problem--I mean, it's been high since I had Royce from my thyroid getting flipped to hyper, and I've been to the doctor multiple times since then with similar blood pressures but she never said it was an issue. Gene said they would be concerned whether or not I was pregnant, so I'm supposed to go in for more bloodwork this week and an EKG, and I have another appt on Friday with one of the OBs at the practice so they can see if my newly prescribed blood pressure meds are working and see if they baby's doing better. I tried to see if we could wait until my endocrinologist appt next Mon, since the hypertension is because of my hyperthyroid (not wait to take the meds, but wait for the bloodwork/ekg) but then I got to hear about strokes and placental abruption, etc.

So not the greatest app. I knew this pg was going to be more medicalized but I've been feeling so much better than last time, that I thought I had a chance to keep interventions to a minimum.

It didn't help that lunch afterwards was also full of fail. Bleah.

Aigh!

Yes, I was annoyed when my midwife panicked over my high blood pressure (remember the terrible experience I had with Elizabeth Seton?). I wish I could send you to Dr. Moritz! He's so reassuring.

I was on ... shoot, I've forgotten what it's called -- but all was well.

Right now I'm irritated that my previous doctor didn't do anything about it. This blood pressure medication is making me feel so much better. No headache! I'm annoyed that I could've been feeling better two years ago.
