Movies I've seen lately
Jun. 11th, 2008 08:49 amI'm going to try to avoid spoilers so these won't be very detailed reviews but I'll give my overall impression/comments.
Iron Man: Wow. Yes, there were some issues which my zibling has already eloquently laid out, but still, wow. And hot. And wow. Do I have a soft spot for a fictional unrepentant bad boy? Of course I do. "Is it better to be feared or respected? I say, is it too much to ask for both?"
SpeedRacer: Ok, this got panned, but I wanted to see it anyway. Come on, it's the guys who did the Matrix. Let me just say...even better than Iron Man. The effects were indescribable--the racing was amazing and I spent most of the movie on the edge of my seat with my jaw dropped. I would've paid to see it in Imax. It was a little draggy in places but the way they meshed the cartoon world and the real world was impressive. Also, Christina Ricci, Susan Sarandon and John Goodman (who has the best line in the movie)... and women who were strong and capable without any special emphasis.
Indiana Jones: Well. Hmm. Not as good a movie as either of the above, but it's Indy. And all the characters we love. And seriously, if you go back and watch Temple of Doom again, you'll see it was just as silly a plot. I liked that they stuck to things that were relevant ideas in the 50s and I loved the wrap up. It was really fun and I thought a good set up for the next ones. And if they tried a little hard and used too much CGI, well, a. we know from Star Wars that that's Luca's down fall and b. if this was the last full on Indy movie, he was going out with a bang before he passes the um, hat.
Sex and the City: Much better than I thought it was going to be. Not at all shallow. All about friendship and love and I cried through most of it. The clothes were awesome but the characterization of relationships with friends and partners was even better.
