And interesting trend--two people have asked about our finances after hearing that we're having our 2nd child--both of them trying to inquire if we have independent means, like a trust fund. Neither of them were doing it in a snarky way, but both were boggled as to how we could have 2 kids on the average wages everyone's making around here. One of them has been with his partner for years and I had no idea that they wanted kids, but they do and just don' t think they have the money. Acey told him that the secret was the that you never think you have enough money, but you just make the leap. It helps that we don't have a mortgage or two car payments or a boat, and we aren't paying for daycare/expensive preschool, so our expenses are a bit different than some other's might be. It also helps that we have family who wants to buy them clothes and such, and we have a good support system, but so do a lot of other parents. We do have to balance some things, but it's worth it.

Yes. If you wait until it's the right time to have children, you'll never have them. But once you have them, you have the motivation to make it work.

Seconded. I was working pretty hard at getting all the pieces into place and then.... DING!! Shot past the deadline.
Not possible at this point with the current flesh and blood technology on hand.

Acey's right. Family pitches in. It works. It all happens with time.
